Practice Looms, what to expect??
10/10/07
How is this years team (with the same exact players -- no offense to don beverly)going to transform themselves from a team unworthy of NIT invites to a team that is picked in some national top 25s and expected by some to make the 2nd weekend of the dance?
Jimmy is saying that at the very least this team HAS to get into the NCAA tournament and I think they should as well, but they are the same players..the old saying goes, the best thing to happen to a frehsman is that he becomes a soph -- but do you all of a sudden find a jumper imbetween semesters 2 and 3?
I am sticking with my hopes though and I will list the reasons why:
Jermome Dyson
We know that he can score because we saw him do it last year, over the last 10 games he was pretty darn good - he is going to need to be third team BE caliber for this team to achieve its goals. This may have less to do with him and more to do with another shooter easing some of the pressure and also a PG to step up and let him not take care of the ball more than he needs to
Stanley Robinson
If the Stan that was recruited and the guy who showed up at the Civic Center for the IU game plays this year -- there is option 2! He may have been hampered by the speed of play and as reported maybe a bit of adjusting struggles coming from Alabama. Big things are still expected of Robinson and here is to hoping his soph year is more Rip Hamilton than Marcus Johnson
Curtis Kelly
Loads of talent from this NYC product, we will need some post prescence and its my feeling that he has a much nicer touch around the hoop than Adrien does. He has a little Donyell in his game and it will be nice to have a solid scorer amongst our bigs. It will also be good for Jeff to not worry about scoring and do what he does on the glass and get to the line. Thabeet and Adrien, we seem to kind of know what we are going to get from them and thus I am not going to include them in keys to the season, though they are valuable -- they are not going to be much different from last year.
Foul Shots (by everyone) and better full court defending are all musts, but the top three guys and the last are what is going to take Uconn back into the top 20 and the most important of anyone is
AJ Price
At this point we will take 80% of what he was in high school..we need him to not only score (he is going to need to be a threat from deep) but to run the whole show...we cannot have Dyson running the point and if Austire, Wiggins or Beverly are logging minutes at the point other than in the weak OOC games -- we are in trouble. AJ has to be the man....
