Update on Nate, according to Dave Borges at the New Haven Register, "Nate Miles, the talented yet mercurial University of Connecticut recruit, has been dismissed from The Patterson School basketball team. However, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation, it wasn’t a disciplinary action, but rather an attempt to allow Miles to concentrate on his academics over the final two weeks of classes. UConn is hoping Miles will be able to enroll at the university for the second semester and join the team."
perhaps "dismiss" (in all original reports) was a poor choice then??
Nate Miles got the shoe from another high school, The Patterson School in Lenoir, N.C. The much heralded 6-foot-7 sharpshooter was thought to possibly start school and play at Uconn as early as December based upon completion of his high school credits. The kid seems like a bit of a mess, ideally he lands in Storrs soon though, we could use a scorer and he can flat out stroke it. Hopefully his problems are much about nothing..Kind of makes me think of what life would be like if Calhoun did not turn his back on Ramar Smith (another much traveled high school student athlete) two years back in the wake of laptop-gate -- he seems to be doing just fine for Tennessee. Uconn returns to action this Sunday in Hartford vs Quinnipiac.
Edsall lands a late bloomer as a future Husky wide receiver. Gerrard Sheppard, who was just coerced into playing football this year by his school's pigskin coach, has signed with Connecticut and will begin his classes this September. This 6-foot-3 hoop standout at the McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Md chose Uconn over Syracuse, Virginia Tech and Orgeon State. Husky assistants see him as a large target with lots of upside...
Also on the grid iron, cornerback Tyvon Branch and offensive guard Donald Thomas have both been selected to participate in the 2008 Hula Bowl. The 62nd edition of the senior all-star game will be held on Jan. 12 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii...

**Sorry for lack of posting in the blog of late, work load and some off the court issues have been keeping me awfully busy. Not enough time to recap the glory of sweeping the dirty birds in Philly (dig that Cappelli), or time to shed a tear over Uconn's stunning loss to V-tech in soccer or to even talk about the Big Easy's ocho on the par 5 72nd to lose by one in his homeland. Give me two weeks and I will be covering such hot topics! Two weeks and I will start hammering Tom Brady for acting like an idiot again, I promise. In the meantime I will add a few random posts and and will always keep my links on the right side fresh. Happy Holidays.
Recap: last week in the pixie: 3-1 has me still teetering at 42-39

Hey didn't you go 3 for 4 in your picks? The Giants won, Cleveland covered and the Pats covered.
On a sad picks note, I went 13 for 16 this past weekend against the spread and still didn't win the $100 a week Aetna Pick'em. I tied, and lost in the tiebreak, to a girl. Needless to say, very unhappy.
