Calhoun Receiving Treatments

5/30/08

In a hastily planned press conference in Storrs this afternoon, Jim Calhoun said that he is being treated for skin cancer for the second time in a year. Calhoun did say that he wants to keep coaching despite the medical issues.

It was revealed that Calhoun had a lump removed from his neck on May 6 that was malignant. His doctors told him that lymph nodes and surrounding tissue removed at the same time were benign.

According to wire reports, "He is scheduled to undergo six weeks of radiation treatments next month at the UConn Health Center. His doctors say there should be no long-term effects from the radiation and expect Calhoun to return to a normal lifestyle, including coaching.

Calhoun was treated for skin cancer on his cheek last year. Doctors say the skin cancer is unrelated to the prostate cancer he had in 2003. The coach discussed his health Friday during a news conference at Gampel Pavilion."

Get well soon coach.
