After a 44 year wait, Spain can celebrate...
Liverpool strike, Fernando Torres, struck in the 33rd minute at the Ernst Happel Stadion and Spain held on to their 1-0 lead to spark wild celebrations in Vienna and even larger hysteria at home.
Heavyweights in European football; considering their production of immense individual talents and as home to two of the largest soccer clubs in the world, Spain had shockingly not won a major tournament since 1964. On Sunday they shook off the label of underachievers not able to cope with the pressure of the grand stage.
Match-winner Fernando Torres summed it up, "The team that played the best football at Euro 2008 won the title and we have a place in European football history."
