Recruiting News, Calhoun focused on Scott
9/23/08
Durand Scott, a 6-foot-4 combo guard out of Rice High School, cut his list to five schools on Monday -- Pitt, Miami, Tennessee, UConn and UCLA.
Scott will take an official visit this weekend to UConn, according to Adam Zagoria. Zags reported that Calhoun and assistant Andre LaFleur came to New York two weeks ago and put "the fullcourt press on him." Scott, has become the Huskies biggest target, fitting the mold of former Husky stars, he has the reputation of a winner who can really get after it on defense.
Scott is currently ranked number 27 overall in the class of 2009 and would be the Huskies second top 30 in that class and 3rd top 100 (#14 Oriakhi and #81 Coombs).Uconn remain on the radar with St Anthony's Dom Cheek (Nova, Indiana, Kansas top his list), 09's top big man -- Atlanta's Derrick Favors (figures to land in the South) and standout SF Jordan Hamilton (Texas leads) out of Compton, CA. If Scott signs look for the Huskies to dropout of the Cheek sweepstakes (saga) and move on to getting a power forward or center.
This class will be filling the spots vacated by AJ Price, Craig Austrie, Jeff Adrien and Hasheem Thabeet (almost certainly) and will be the crux of the club in a couple of seasons with this year's talented newcomers; Walker, Miles, Majok and Haralson.
