Quite a few days for the Husky front court..in the matter of two days Uconn got a NBA first round big guy to stay and also landed a top 15 recruit to play the 4; Uconn has just gotten itself a top 5 pre-season ranking I believe...

We got Thabeet
Hasheem Thabeet has finally made the call and will not enter this summer's NBA draft. The 7'3'' Sophomore is clearly making the correct call as a basketball player -- however his families circumstance at home and the money available presently have made this a difficult choice I would imagine. With similar progress over the next 12 months (as he has had the last 12) -- Thabeet, the National Defensive Player of the Year, will be a top 5 pick in the 2009 draft.

The Uconn athletic department released the news this afternoon and will hold a press conference tomorrow afternoon at Gampel. Quotes below:

Thabeet
"I am excited about the opportunity to stay at UConn and continue the mission that we started this season. I also want to thank my family and close friends for all of their help and support. As a team, we took a step in the right direction this year, but I look forward to us working together to win a BIG EAST Championship and making a run at a national championship. I really enjoy being here, getting a great education and spending time with my friends and teammates."

Calhoun
"We are happy that Hasheem has made the decision to return for his junior season. Hasheem has made as much progress as any player I have coached in my 36 years and if he continues that incredible progress, he will help us take the next step as a team and help himself become one of the best players in college basketball."
