Germans are first through to the Semis, 3-2
6/19/08
Germany booked their place in the Euro semi-finals by taking advantage of some rather sloppy marking by the Portuguese today. Bastian Schweinsteiger struck first (from Podolski) and a set piece of his created the second off of the head of Miroslav Klose. Nuno Gomes would make it interesting again before the break for the pork chops as they climbed back to 2-1, but another Schweinsteiger free-kick would end up closing the deal in the second half. This time German captain, Michael Ballack, put his head on another great strike from Basti and the Deutsch weren't going to look back. A Portugal substitute, Helder Postiga, pulled one back in the final minutes, but it was not going to be enough as Germany booked a match-up with either Croatia or Turkey next week.
