Promise Fulfilled

4/14/08

if you recall in my Masters Preview I wrote,

"Trevor Immelman -- 5th in 2005, South African seems destined for a few majors"

That's right I am a genius, not really, but I did think he was the best player never to win a major -- as of 7:00 yesterday evening he was officially out of that category. Immelman's game is all class, he has a bit of Goosen in the way he quietly pounds away at a golf course.

The South African made enough putts and hit enough solid iron shots to earn the walk of a lifetime after he let out a big sigh of relief after splitting the 18th fairway. His 3 over par final round was enough to earn him a 3 shot victory.

Tiger Woods, who finished runner-up in a major for the 5th time, was not surprised by Immelman's win.

"Trevor is extremely talented," said Woods, who is only four years older than the South African. "He's had a run of bad luck the last few years, but he's battled, and it was just a matter of time. He's just one of many guys who, if they play well, they can win anywhere, and Trevor proved that here."

Notes: Even with a disappointing final round 77, Brandt Snedeker made a lot of fans this weekend...Unfortunately Freddy missed making the cut by about an inch, the streak ends at 23, tied with Gary Player for most consecutive all time at Augusta...Andres Romero debut went quite nicely as he finished in the top 10...the Tour now enters the US Open prep phase as they head out to Hilton Head Island for the Heritage, Boo Weekely defends

later...I am off to Munich today and will be out of touch for about 9 days (Thursday I will see Gregg play at the Allianz Arena for the first time -- 1860 v Wehen Wiesbaden)

The Rangers and Devils "battle of the Hudson" should be nearly done when I return and hopefully Zeke will be gone.

Be Good.
